Safety authorisation for infrastructure managers on the national rail network

The infrastructure manager for the national railway network must have safety approval issued by the Norwegian Railway Authority. The safety approval includes own transport in connection with operation and maintenance etc. of the infrastructure. Safety approval will also include associated infrastructure that the infrastructure manager is contracted to operate for the private party.

In order to be issued safety approval, the infrastructure management must:
a) have a safety management system that satisfies the requirements in the Safety Management Regulations, and
b) be able to comply with specific requirements that are necessary for the safe design, maintenance and operation of railway infrastructure, including maintenance and operation of the system for traffic management and signalling.
